What is the difference between air to air heat pump and air to water heat pump?

During the heating cycle, the outdoor unit draws heat from the outside air and transfers it to the heat exchanger, which in turn transfers it to the heating system. During the cooling cycle, the heat exchanger removes heat from the heating system and releases it outside.
